Live updates as Liverpool win the Premier League in Arne Slot's first season (2025)

Arne Slot has led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season as manager. The Reds took top spot in September and have been at the summit almost permanently ever since.

The result that sealed it was their 5-1 thrashing over Tottenham on Sunday. The newly-crowned champions went 1-0 down but produced a stunning performance to win at a sold-out Anfield in style.

For a while, it looked as though Liverpool's home match against Arsenal on May 11 could be a title decider. Instead, it may well be an opportunity for the champions to receive a guard of honour from their closest challengers.

We'll have all the reaction right here at Mirror Football as Liverpool begin their celebrations. Stay right here for everything you need.

That's your lot

As Liverpool's players move the party into the dressing room, that feels like a good moment to call it a day on this live blog.

You'll find plenty more reaction to their title win elsewhere on Mirror Football.

Guardiola's message to Liverpool

Pep Guardiola had a classy message for Liverpool after Manchester City beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 to move into the FA Cup final.

"Before we start, on behalf of myself and the club we want to congratulate Liverpool for their Premier League victory," he said.

"Well deserved, no doubt about that, a fantastic team. Give me one year, like It happened the last four years and hopefully next season we can do better and compete until the end of the season. Liverpool, congratulations."

20th title

Liverpool have won their 20th top-flight title today, pulling them level with rivals Manchester United.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy told BBC Sport: "It is nice. You want to be the most successful team in the country. But I actually think probably because Liverpool’s success came earlier, Fergie made a thing of that when he came – wanting to match Liverpool’s league titles and overtake it which of course he did.

"I think the great thing about is that Liverpool are now in a position where we’re much more likely than Manchester United to go on and add more titles than them in the next couple of years, and that’s something I think Liverpool fans will be more pleased with."

Salah speaks

Mohamed Salah has showered praise on Arne Slot in an interview with Sky Sports.

“Incredible, incredible," he said. "To win the Premier League here with the fans is something special. You saw that today and you saw it every game.”

Asked how does it compare to five years ago, he replied: “Ah, this is way better 100 per cent. Without Sadio [Mane], without Jurgen [Klopp], without Bobby [Firmino], without everybody it feels more special, with the fans. But you know, you have a different group now, a different manager and you show you are able to do it again - it’s something special.”

On Slot: “I think he was very honest. Quite tough, Dutch, that’s his personality. But he makes our life easier, he ask you immediately what he wants you to do, so that’s what we did and I’m glad that we won it here.”

Slot thanks Klopp

Arne Slot has been given the microphone and begins by leading a chant to thank Jurgen Klopp.

He then said: "It was clear we couldn't lose this game. Everyone on the bus said there's no way we're going to lose this game. They always find a way to win.

"Incredibly proud, not only of the players but the people standing here, sport directors, my staff members, we should give them a big round of applause. Let's forget it's the second in 35 years, it's the second in five years."

Felix Keith

Who gets a medal?

The title is secure and the vast majority of the Liverpool squad will, of course, receive a medal for their efforts.

But there are a few who will miss out, as things stand.

Felix Keith

"Champions, champions, champions!"

The players are still out on the pitch celebrating with the fans.

Felix Keith

No trophy yet

Liverpool have won the Premier League title - but they will have to wait nearly a month to lift the trophy.

That will come after their final match of the season, against Crystal Palace on May 25. They'll have to stick with the tin foil versions for now.

Felix Keith

Slot in esteemed company

Arne Slot has become the fifth manager to win the Premier League in his first season after Jose Mourinho (2004/05 with Chelsea), Carlo Ancelotti (2009/10 with Chelsea), Manuel Pellegrini (2013/14 with Man City) and Antonio Conte (2016/17 with Chelsea). Not bad company.

Special scenes at Anfield

Last time Liverpool won the Premier League title, in 2019/20, they secured the title inside an empty stadium due to the Covid-19 restrictions.

Now they are able to celebrate it properly, inside a packed Anfield. There are special scenes now, with the whole team lined up, arm in arm, singing You'll Never Walk Alone with the fans.

Felix Keith

Anfield goes wild

There is no pitch invasion, with Liverpool fans behaving themselves from the stands.

Freed from Desire is being belted out with the players jumping around singing along with the fans.

Felix Keith

Liverpool celebrate

Alisson drops to his knees inside his penalty area before being swamped by his team-mates. Virgil van Dijk picks up the goalkeeper in a bear hug.

The flares have gone off in the stands as Slot makes his way onto the pitch to congratulate every player.

KEY EVENT

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

Liverpool are Premier League champions. The final whistle has gone at Anfield.

Arne Slot and his coaching staff are sharing a group hug on the touchline.

Felix Keith

90+3 mins

Ange Postecoglou has offered his congratulations to Arne Slot already. He will get out of the way once the final whistle goes. This is about Liverpool.

Felix Keith

90+1 mins

You'll Never Walk Alone is being belted out inside Anfield now, with the scarfs up in the air in the sunshine.

Felix Keith

Darwin Nunez has messed this up. He sprints clear on the counter-attack but tries to set up Mo Salah rather than just shoot.

Harvey Elliott's shot is blocked on the second phase. It doesn't matter.

Four minutes of added time away.

Felix Keith

Liverpool minutes away

The game is meandering towards its conclusion.

This will be Liverpool's 25th win of the Premier League season to go with their seven draws and two defeats.

Felix Keith

86 mins

The stewards are out in numbers, surrounding the pitch to try and stop a pitch invasion at full-time.

It remains to be seen whether they are successful or not. I would imagine not.

Felix Keith

82 mins

Alexis Mac Allister is coming off for Darwin Nunez. I think Arne Slot has made that change just so he can get a deserved standing ovation. What a game the little Argentine has had.

Felix Keith

81 mins

Mo Salah has been quiet in recent weeks, but it was fitting that he got his name onto the scoresheet this afternoon.

The Egyptian has been absolutely fantastic for the Reds this season and is enjoying his best ever campaign.

Felix Keith

78 mins

A brief stoppage in play as a load of balloons float across the pitch.

An aerial view shows thousands of fans gathering outside of Anfield.

Felix Keith

Liverpool ring the changes

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz go off. Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott come on.

Liverpool giving some minutes to their squad players now, with Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones having come on earlier.

Felix Keith

Salah passes Aguero

Mo Salah's goal means he now has 185 in the Premier League - one more than Sergio Aguero. He's also just two behind Andy Cole now.

Felix Keith

Goal stands

VAR has cleared it. This could get really ugly for Spurs...

KEY EVENT

GOAL! Liverpool 5-1 Tottenham

Told you more goals were coming.

Destiny Udogie is the unfortunate Tottenham player who appears to have scored an own goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross...

But VAR are checking for a potential offside.

Felix Keith

66 mins

Mo Salah tees up Dominik Szoboszlai, but his shot is straight at the goalkeeper.

There are more goals in this.
